Abstract
The emotional security hypothesis present explanation for how interparental conflicts affect child psychological adjustment. We examined children¡¯s emotional security as a mediator in the relations between marital conflicts and children¡¯s internalizing and externalizing problems. 282 5th grade elementary school children(130 boys and 152 girls), their parents and teachers participated. Methodologically the structural equation modeling was employed to demonstrate the associations between the proposed mediator and the adjustment problems. This research confirmed that children¡¯s emotional security was identified as a significant mediator that link marital conflict and child adjustment problems. The emotional security hypothesis provided a reasonable fit(internalizing problems), a close fit(externalizing problems) and the emotional security hypothesis was also fit to this data. Therefore this research suggests that marital conflict, children¡¯s emotional security and adjustment problems are interrelated, and that emotional security is one of key mediators of the relations between marital conflicts and child psychological adjustment.
